Stomach and Digestive Tract
Heaviness after meals, bloating or irregular digestion – these discomforts are familiar to many. This is also the largest category in the shop: here we have gathered herbs for the stomach and digestion that folk medicine has traditionally used for digestive comfort and normal gut motility.
- Regular Stomach – plantain and St John’s wort;
- Fenal (fennel), Anise, Mint and Ginger – classic aromatic after-meal herbs;
- Plantago (plantain), Potentilla (cinquefoil), Geranium (wild geranium), Bilberry and Epilobin;
- plus Tonus, Rutin, Calendula, Hypericum, Astragalus, Agrimony and Perfect Figure.
The choice of dried herbs for tea is just as wide: fennel and anise seed, peppermint, chamomile, ginger, turmeric, wild geranium, cinquefoil, agrimony, bilberry leaf, plantain, mountain tea, lavender, walnut leaf and buckthorn bark.
Eating calmly, drinking enough water and getting enough fibre are the basis of good digestion, and herbs can be a pleasant addition to them. If you have persistent pain, blood in the stool or sudden weight loss, see a doctor. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or on medication, check with a doctor or pharmacist before use.
FAQ
Fennel, anise, peppermint and ginger are the classic aromatic herbs traditionally taken after meals for digestive comfort. You can choose them as tinctures – Fenal, Anise, Mint and Ginger – or as dried herbs for tea.
The manufacturer recommends taking them 10–15 minutes before meals – 20 drops (about 1 ml) dissolved in a glass of water, 3 times a day. If you have a sensitive stomach and find taking them on an empty stomach unpleasant, ask a doctor or pharmacist how to adapt this.
Some people combine two tinctures, for example an aromatic herb such as Fenal with Plantago. However, it is better to start with one product to see how it suits you. If you take medication or are considering taking several herbs for a longer time, ask a doctor or pharmacist.
