Dwarf elder (Sambucus ebulus) is a perennial herbaceous plant from the Adoxaceae family (Adoxaceae). In Bulgaria, you can find this herb in fields, forests, bushes, along rivers and roads, as long as the soil is sufficiently moist and at altitudes up to 1900 m. Other names for dwarf elder are: Herbaceous elder, Baze, Bazovlyak, Bazunyak, Low elder. The usable part of the plant is the fruit. It is a rich source of flavonoids, phenolic acids, vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B) and minerals (potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron). Thanks to these substances, dwarf elder has general strengthening, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and diuretic effects.

The fruit of dwarf elder is used for:

  • strengthening the immune system
  • viral and flu conditions
  • respiratory and pulmonary diseases
  • urinary tract infections
  • gastrointestinal inflammation
  • accumulation of toxins in the body

Decoction: Boil 1 teaspoon of the herb in 500 ml of water for 10 minutes. Then strain the decoction and drink 120 ml 4 times daily before meals.
