Wild Liquorice (Astragalus glycyphyllos L.) is a large perennial herbaceous plant from the Legume family (Fabaceae). In Bulgaria, you can find this herb in forests, shrublands, meadows, and mountains at altitudes up to 2000m. It is known by different names: Eagle's Claws, Crow's Claws, Astragalus, Wild Liquorice, Sweet-leaved Milk-vetch. The usable part consists of the upper flowering leafy branches (aerial parts). They are rich in glycyrrhizin, tannins, sugars, ascorbic acid, organic acids, isoflavones, flavonoids, amino acids, curcumins, phytosterol, vitamin C, vitamin E, macro- and microelements. Thanks to its active substances, the herb has immunomodulating, tonic, adaptogenic, antiviral, strengthening, antioxidant, vasodilating, and expectorant properties.
Wild Liquorice is used for:
- flu and cold symptoms
- inflammation of respiratory tract and stomach
- acute and chronic infections
- mental and physical strain
