Anise (Pimpinella anisum L) is an annual herbaceous plant from the parsley and celery family - Umbelliferae (Apiaceae). The herb grows best in light, fertile, well-drained soil. It is cultivated as an essential oil herb, mainly in Southeastern Bulgaria. The usable parts are the seeds. They are rich in essential oil (10-30%), fatty oil, oleic acid, linalool, petroselinic acid, pristane, coumarins bergapten, vitamins, and others. Thanks to its active substances, the herb has expectorant, antiseptic, and antispasmodic effects. It helps to reduce fever and stimulate digestion.
Anise seeds are used for:
- gastrointestinal tract disorders
- colitis and gas
- weakened immunity
- high fever
- bronchitis
1 teaspoon of the herb is steeped in 500 ml of boiling water. After 1 hour, strain the infusion. Take 1/2 cup 3 times daily before meals.
