Eyebright (Euphrasia officinalis) is an annual herbaceous plant from the Figwort family (Scrophulariaceae). In Bulgaria, you can find it in grassy areas, pastures, meadows up to 1800m above sea level. It's also known by other names such as Teardrops, Eye-comfort. The usable part of the plant is the aerial part - the herb. These are richest in vitamins B, C, and D, minerals: iron, potassium, magnesium, manganese, iridoid aucubin (3-glucoside), essential oil, gallotannin, blue dye, traces of alkaloids, stigmasterol, β-sitosterol, choline, caffeic and ferulic acids and essential oils. Thanks to its active substances, the herb has anti-inflammatory, astringent, cytotoxic effects. Eyebright strengthens the immune system, relieves inflammation, increases body tone, strengthens blood vessel walls.
Eyebright herb is used for:
