Nettle (Urtica dioica) is a perennial, herbaceous plant from the Nettle family (Urticaceae). It is widely distributed in temperate regions, mainly Europe, North Africa, North America, and parts of Asia. In Bulgaria, you can find it everywhere, as long as it's shady and moist. The usable parts of the plant are the leaves and roots. They are rich in tannin, vitamins from groups A, B, C, K, PP, macro and micro elements, beta carotene, potassium, calcium, silicon, iron, serotonin, polyphenols, and all essential amino acids. The harvesting time for leaves is from May to October and immediately before or at the beginning of plant flowering. Thanks to its active substances, nettle is a strong antioxidant, has toning, immunomodulating, calming, anti-inflammatory and diuretic effects, can help regulate blood sugar levels, as well as hormone production.
