Wild Basil (Clinopodium Vulgare L) is an annual, wild, herbaceous plant from the Mint family (Lamiaceae). It is widely distributed in Europe, Western Asia, North Africa, and North America. It inhabits light, open forests, shrublands, meadows, limestone terrains, and grassy areas. In our region, you can find it in the Rhodopes, Stara Planina, and Sredna Gora mountains. Bulgarian names for the herb are: Chernovrah, Wild Basil, Haidushka herb. The usable parts of the herb are the leaves and flowers (aerial parts). They are rich in arenarin, vitamins B, C, K, PP, flavonoids, glycosides, and tannins. Thanks to its composition, it has antibacterial, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic properties.
